Summary
Surfer is the better buy for an SEO content team that already writes in Surfer: from $95 a month its AI Tracker checks 50 prompts every day on five engines, including Google AI Mode, and feeds the gaps straight into its Content Editor. Stride fits teams that want each finding turned into a drafted fix from their own scan evidence, AI visits tied to revenue in GA4, and false claims about the brand flagged. Writers and SEO leads will usually prefer Surfer; small marketing teams and online stores that need to prove AI revenue should look hard at Stride.
Stride publishes this comparison and is one of the tools in it. Facts about Surfer come from its own public pricing and product pages, checked on October 13, 2026, and are linked where they appear. Where another tool is the better choice, we say so.

What does each cost for a team like mine?
At $99 the two line up almost exactly. Surfer Standard is $99 a month billed yearly for 25 prompts tracked weekly on ChatGPT, the same tracking as Stride Starter at $99. Surfer adds three seats and 360 content documents. Stride adds action items with drafts grounded in your scans, 3 a week, and GA4 revenue per AI source. Pay monthly and Surfer Standard is $119; Stride Starter stays $99.
Above that, Surfer gives more tracking for the money. Pro at $182 billed yearly, or $219 monthly, tracks 50 prompts daily on five engines with five seats. Stride's closest plan is Grow at $349, or $279 billed annually: 50 prompts three times a week on ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude (beta), plus AI Overviews on the first 15 prompts you add. Grow adds Brand Integrity and 25 drafts a month.
At the top, Peace of Mind is $299 billed yearly, or $359 monthly, for 100 daily prompts, ten seats, API access and unlimited documents, which Surfer's fair usage policy sets at 500 a month on the monthly plan.
If you only want tracking, Surfer's AI Search Analytics plan is the cheapest way into five engines here: 50 daily prompts for $82 billed yearly. Our roundup of AI visibility tools for SEO teams covers the AI trackers built into other SEO tools.
Which tracks more AI engines?
Surfer, at every price point. Each daily plan runs every prompt on ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews and Gemini at once, so you don't pick models or pay per engine. Stride reaches five surfaces only on Scale, at $1,297 a month, and they're a different five. Surfer says it collects answers from the live interfaces people use, not an API.
Stride's Starter tracks ChatGPT only. Grow adds Gemini, Claude (beta) and AI Overviews on the first 15 prompts you add. Scale adds Perplexity and full AI Overviews. Stride tracks Claude, which Surfer's pricing page doesn't list, but doesn't track AI Mode, Copilot, Grok, Meta AI or DeepSeek. If Google AI Mode matters to your buyers, Surfer covers it and Stride doesn't.
Which one helps me fix what it finds?
Both, and this is the real choice.
Surfer's fix is its writing suite. The AI Tracker shows mention gaps, competitor share of voice and the sources AI pulls from, then hands off to Topical Map for planning, the Content Editor for writing and Content Audit for refreshes. If your writers already score drafts in Surfer, that loop is hard to beat. It integrates with WordPress, Google Docs, Contentful and Zapier.
Stride's fix starts from the answer itself. Each scan finding becomes an action item, ranked with readiness and brand-accuracy issues. Where the fix is content, Stride drafts the page or edit from the AI answers and cited sources behind that finding, not from search-result data. Your team reviews and publishes, and later scans show whether the prompt moved. Stride doesn't publish to your CMS for you.
Which shows what AI visits are worth?
Stride. Connect Google Analytics 4 and the AI traffic view shows sessions, conversions and revenue for each AI source, on every plan. Surfer's pricing page doesn't list GA4 revenue reporting as of October 2026, though a site banner announces a new Agent Analytics feature this month.
Stride also checks what AI says about you. Brand Integrity, on Grow and up, flags false or unsupported claims AI engines make about your brand, explains which source evidence is missing, and turns the fix into an action item. Surfer tracks sentiment and mention gaps, which tells you how AI feels about you rather than whether the facts are right.

Which is better for agencies?
Surfer has five brand workspaces on Pro and the AI Search Analytics plan, unlimited on Peace of Mind, and white-label on Enterprise. That works for an SEO agency already running client content in Surfer.
Stride Agency is a $499 monthly platform fee plus a discounted Starter, Grow or Scale plan per client, on one invoice, with unlimited seats, client logins, white-label branding and account transfer when a client leaves. It suits an agency that wants to resell AI visibility as its own retainer. The agency page covers the model.
When is Surfer the better choice?
- Your team already writes in Surfer and wants AI tracking inside the same tool.
- You want five engines, including Google AI Mode, tracked daily from $82 a month billed yearly.
- You need more seats at a low price: five on the AI Search Analytics plan.
- You want MCP access below $100 a month, or an API on Peace of Mind.
- You work in WordPress, Google Docs or Contentful and want the writing tool connected.
When is Stride the better choice?
- You need to show what AI visits earn, with GA4 conversions and revenue per AI source.
- You want fixes drafted from the AI answers and sources that caused the gap.
- You want AI's false claims about your brand caught and routed to a fix.
- You sell online and want your store checked against agent-commerce protocols such as ACP, UCP and x402.
- You run an agency that wants per-client plans you can resell.
Stride's limits are real here: fewer engines at entry, no AI Mode, no API or MCP, and no CMS publishing.
Two quick scenarios
A content lead at a SaaS company with four writers. They already plan and score every article in Surfer and want to know which buyer questions ChatGPT and AI Mode answer without them. Surfer Pro fits: 50 prompts daily on five engines, with gaps flowing into the editor the writers use.
A two-person team running an online kitchenware store. Nobody writes full-time, and the owner wants to know whether AI visitors buy. Stride fits: Grow drafts the fixes from scan evidence, Brand Integrity catches wrong product claims, and GA4 shows revenue per AI source.
